A CITIZEN'S GUIDE TO HOW AMERICA WORKS #21 (by America The Possible)
🇺🇸 Today in US History: George Washington lays the Capitol cornerstone
YOU CAN’T MAKE THIS STUFF UP

National “Guard”eners
From National Guard to National Gardeners.
The Guardian: “If soldiers are going to be deployed to your city, what would you prefer they do: point a rifle in your face or mow your grass? This is not a question I ever expected to have to consider in my days on this planet, but life is full of surprises. As part of Donald Trump’s military deployment to address Washington, DC’s so-called “crime emergency,” National Guard troops are being tasked with various groundskeeping duties around the United States capital. These duties include spreading mulch around cherry trees, picking up trash, and general maintenance of public spaces. The president must have been too embarrassed to get Four Seasons Total Landscaping involved again, so he got the military to do it instead.”
BEHIND THE MICROBYTES
BEHIND EVERY SOCIAL MEDIA LENGTH POST, THERE’S AN INTERESTING BACKSTORY, WHICH PUTS A LITTLE MEAT ON THE BONE. (Follow us on Instagram and TikTok ) Help us pick the NEXT microbyte. 👈️
MICROBYTE: “Guilty until proven innocent.” The Supreme Court’s reinterpretation of the Constitution.Gasps were heard when our Supreme Court, by a six-to-three vote, gave the green light to roving ICE Patrols to be able to sweep people off the streets based on how they look, how they speak, what they’re wearing, or what job they work at. A lower court said it was unconstitutional. Despite that, the Supreme Court decided that sweeping people off the streets was peachy-keen with them. Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote the dissenting opinion, joined by Justices Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson. The dissent argued that allowing “roving patrols” enables agents to seize, detain, and humiliate individuals “solely because of their appearance, accents, and manual labor occupations,” violating Fourth Amendment protections against unreasonable searches and seizures. Sotomayor condemned the majority’s decision as a grave misuse of the emergency docket, warning, “we should not have to live in a country where the Government can seize anyone who looks Latino, speaks Spanish, and appears to work a low-wage job. Rather than stand idly by while our constitutional freedoms are lost, I dissent.” Congress has the power to reverse questionable Supreme Court decisions. But will they muster the courage? If there was ever a time for We The People to step up, that time is now. Call the capital switchboard, get hold of the people you elected to Congress, and tell them that you think the Court’s decision sucks. Congress has the power to reverse it. Tell them if they fail to do the right thing, you’re taking names, and remind them that they could be swept off the streets of Washington come the midterms. |
MICROBYTE: Guns are Us.The recent assassination of Charlie Kirk has once again raised the issue of gun legislation in America. His was the 18,533rd death by gun violence so far this year. And there’s plenty of 2025 left to go. The facts are breathtaking. America’s level of gun violence is an extreme outlier among developed nations, with no other wealthy country coming close to its rate of firearm deaths. Over the past 10 years, approximately 415,000 to 420,000 people have been killed by gun violence in the United States. In terms of overall global rankings, the U.S. sits in the 93rd percentile for firearm mortality worldwide—meaning it ranks among the very worst globally, not just in comparison to peer countries. And still, the cowards we sent to Congress do nothing but give us their thoughts, their prayers, and a lot of lame excuses. For them, the time is never right. The anti-legislation activists keep telling us that guns don’t kill people, people kill people. A not-so-subtle bit of deceptive reasoning more fit for bumper stickers than rational argument. While it’s true that a gun does require a person to load a gun, aim it, and pull the trigger, it is certainly true that a gun has the potential to kill more people and cause more damage than, say, a knife. Particularly, guns that were designed to kill the maximum number of people with the least amount of effort. AK-47s, AK-74s, and the mass shooter favorite, the AR-15. The anti-legislation activists also tell us that what we need is less gun legislation and more mental health facilities. More deceptive reasoning. There’s little doubt that a person who assassinates another person has a mental health problem. But what possible sense does it make to equip the mentally ill with weapons of mass destruction? Why not reduce rather than expand the possible carnage? It would be nearly impossible to kill 47 children in a school, or assassinate someone at a distance of 200 yards if your only obtainable weapon was a knife. |
THIS WEEK’S FRONT PAGE

Damn the Constitution, full speed ahead.
Using the assassination of Charlie Kirk as an excuse to ignore rights guaranteed by the First Amendment, and go after “lefty perpetrators.” During an interview on the Katie Miller Podcast, Miller, wife of White House puppeteer, Stephan Miller, the ever-eager-to-please-the-Boss Attorney General Pam Bondi declared war on hate speech, vowing that federal law enforcement will go after Americans for what she and her boss define as “hate speech.”
On his way to board Marine One, President Trump gave us an inkling of just what his definition will be.
When ABC News’s Jonathan Karl asked the president this morning what he made of Bondi’s hate-speech comments, Trump responded, “She’ll probably go after people like you, because you treat me so unfairly. It’s hate. You have a lot of hate in your heart.”
If there is a bit of good news here, Bondi’s little rant seems to have offended everyone, left, right, and center.
It most certainly would have offended Charlie Kirk.
“Hate speech does not exist legally in America,” Kirk declared in a 2024 post on X. “There’s ugly speech. There’s gross speech. There’s evil speech. And ALL of it is protected by the First Amendment. Keep America free.”
“It was a moronic thing to say, and she must retract or resign.” Brit Hume, the chief political analyst for Fox News, wrote: “Someone needs to explain to Ms. Bondi that so-called ‘hate speech,’ repulsive though it may be, is protected by the First Amendment. She should know this.”
WHAT I’M READING NOW
Per medical advice, I’m taking the week off from heavy reading. What I’m reading is Daniel Silva’s latest book, An Inside Job. I am a very big Gabriel Allon fan. Allon is the series’s ongoing main character–head of Israel’s spy agency, friend of Popes, and world-renowned art restorer. The book is one in a series, and I warn you, they're addictive. QUOTE OF THE WEEK
Mike Johnson claimed during an interview on CNBC: “The president is the most maligned and attacked political figure in the history of American politics. But he’s also the most resilient. And you see, at the same time, his approval ratings are skyrocketing. CNN had a story, I think a day or two ago. He was at 90% approval rating. There’s never been a president that high.”

BOOBY PRIZE OF THE WEEK

FBI Director assaults U.S. Senator.
This exchange between Senator Adam Schiff and FBI Director Kash Patel took place during today’s Senate hearing regarding the legitimacy of the instant transfer of convicted sex offender Ghislaine Maxwell from a real prison to Camp Fed, following her two-day “interview” with Deputy Attorney General and President Trump’s personal attorney. Tod Blanche. The Trump administration maintains there was no quid pro quo deal involved.
Schiff: “You want the American people to believe that? Do you think they’re stupid?”
Patel: “No, I think the American people believe the truth. What I am doing is protecting this country, providing historic reform, and combating the weaponization of intelligence by the likes of you, and we have callously proven you to be a liar in Russiagate, on January 6. You are the biggest fraud to ever sit in the United States Senate. You are a disgrace to this institution and an utter coward. You continue to lie from your perch and put on a show so you can go raise money for your charade. You are a political buffoon at best.”
(Note to Pam Bondi: I’m no Attorney General, but this sounds like hate speech to me.)

JOKE OF THE WEEK
![]() | And the last laugh goes to the Wall Street Journal. J.D. Vance’s attack on the Wall Street Journal over the Trump-Epstein birthday letter was posted on social media following the publication of the article in July 2025. The most widely cited and direct language from his posts includes: “Forgive my language, but this story is complete and utter bullshit. The WSJ should be ashamed for publishing it. Where is this letter? Would you be shocked to learn they never showed it to us before publishing it? Does anyone honestly believe this sounds like Donald Trump?” (On September 8th, 2025, The Trump Birthday Letter was released to the public.) |
